A movement to create positive change and build a stronger, more connected community!
Meet Jaylan Mobley, a visionary leader and the driving force behind Coffee and Tap, a nonprofit and veteran-owned business founded in 2024. As the President and Founder, Mobley has combined his passion for community service, military experience, and entrepreneurial spirit to create an organization that's brewing positive change in Charlotte, NC, and military bases nationally!
Jaylan's love for coffee began unexpectedly in 2014 while he was graduating high school. Despite not being a coffee drinker before, his first job at Starbucks sparked a passion that would shape his future. It was there that Jaylan made and tasted his first cup of coffee, instantly captivated by the flavors, the energy, and the unique atmosphere of working in a coffee shop. His dedication and skill quickly became apparent as he was named "Barista of the Quarter" for three consecutive months and "Barista of the Year" within his region.
This early experience ignited a lifelong passion for coffee that has taken Jaylan around the world in search of the perfect bean. His quest for quality has led him to explore renowned coffee regions including Italy, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. Closer to home, Jaylan has also sourced exceptional beans from Asheville, North Carolina, embracing the rich local coffee culture. For Jaylan, starting each day with a cup of coffee is not just a habit, but a key to his success and something he eagerly anticipates every morning.
Jaylan grew up in the Belmont Community in Charlotte, NC, alongside his twin sister Jessica Mobley. His commitment to service began early in his life at West Charlotte Senior High School, where he served as the Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Battalion Commander, distinguishing himself as the top cadet.
After high school, Jaylan's dedication led him to the United States Military Academy at West Point - Preparatory School, followed by a full-ride scholarship to Georgia Military College. He graduated in 2018 with associate degrees in Computer Science and Homeland Security & Emergency Management, achieving an impressive 3.9 GPA. His leadership skills shone as he served as GMC's Regimental Commander, overseeing more than 10,000 students and cadets across six campuses.
Jaylan's military career included being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the West Virginia Army National Guard. He furthered his education at West Virginia University, earning a bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems with a minor in Cybersecurity, and later a Master's degree in Cybersecurity Management with a perfect 4.0 GPA and has earned multiple cyber security certifications such as: CASP+, SEC+, Linux+, and CEH.
His military achievements include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and several others, reflecting his dedication and commitment to service.
In July 2024, Jaylan founded Coffee and Tap, combining his passion for community service with his entrepreneurial spirit. The nonprofit, veteran-owned food truck is dedicated to serving high-quality coffee and food while creating positive change in the Charlotte community.
